The title says it all. I get the rudder into its final shape, the cabin sole boards are nearing completion, and I get some rubbing strip around the top of the anchor chain storage box. Meanwhile, an old friend returns.... This is the story of the building of a Jay Benford designed, 31.8ft, junk schooner-rigged cruising sailboat. The videos are a week-by-week record of the build as it progresses and aim to show as much detail as possible of the various aspects of the build. hi let's feed badger i'm tony we're

building a

cruising sailboat a sailboat that we can

live on and travel around in this what i

mean by that

um this week we've been again

in the other shape quite a bit still

working on on the rudder

floorboards one or two other bits but uh

let's go

yeah here perhaps there's a view that

says it all if we got that

the rather which is now completely

shaped profiled and has

a good thorough coating of epoxy on on

the blade section

to seal all this end grain obviously

it's going to be glassed i shall put

a good couple of layers of glass on this

it's coming on

um so i say shaped up and laid on the

rudder

once you've got a floorboard and the

floorboards are still ongoing this and

now

i'm now working on the galley section

which is actually the aft most

four boards um i've got one behind me

here i don't know

look at this bring that in

state the place the first of the four

stands up

filled ready for a quick stand now and

some

varnish but um

you know all the time i've been working

on the rather here

things have been going on in between so

you know

it's a long it's a long game but we're

getting there

the last of the four as i say well this

is the second of the last

four of the floorboards then i've got

the bottom step of the companionway

steps to do

with this same cladding yeah

yeah put this brass strip around the top

of the

anchor box just to protect the top from

the chain

the sides actually don't really need

protecting but it does seal that end

grain

and the front is where the chain might

run over

and i'm going to make a lid on this

um with a short fixed section or a thin

narrow

fixed section and a lid that opens up

back there

when the lids open it will protect all

of this from being bashed by the chain

and also with a catch on the lid we'll

be able to

catch it shut and keep the chain in

place should that be necessary

so that's coming i've started cutting

the first part for the lid

and that's brass strip there is in place

and looking good

and this is one of the last things i

wanted to get done before we pull it

forward so

um okay i've been talking about it for

weeks but we're actually getting very

close to pulling

the forwards out of the shed now

which is exciting stuff
