On this weeks episode of Onboard Lifestyle, we spend a little time in San Luis Obispo Bay waiting for the right time to jump to Cojo Bay, Goleta Bay and Santa Barbara. The crew enjoyed each of the stops, but it is time to tackle a few major projects before we enter Mexico and Santa Barbara will be the right place to do them. Come back next week to see what we are up too...see you then!

previously on onward lifestyle we sailed
from san simeon bay to morro bay we
picked up a mooring ball and enjoyed the
swift current courtesy of a series of
king tides this region was experiencing
the crew spent nearly a week exploring
this quiet seaside town
compass was happy to get a little beach
time in
[Music]
we spent a day hiking around moro rock
then dig into a wholesome meal
oh that's smoky
morro bay was a great stop but we are on
the move and looking forward to new
scenery
the float plan for the leg from morro
bay to san luis obispo bay was
straightforward
we left morro bay at high slack tide
midday to avoid the strong incoming
currents that we had been experiencing
the 22.5 nautical mile sail was forecast
to be variable winds from light to 25
knots so at times we sailed and other
times we assisted with our twin myanmar
diesel engines
we are now
coming towards the diablo canyon nuclear
power plant
and we're taking a wise swing around it
because we did not want to repeat what
happened the last time tio and i came
around here we cut it too close because
it was just perfect wind
and
this
black
i don't know it's not a dinghy because
it was it was just a little bit bigger
than that anyways they came out to yell
at us saying that we were too close so
i do not want to have that happen again
and while we were here the last time
there was probably a hundred dolphins so
i've been hoping to see some it's just
glass smooth out here
and it's just gorgeous
the wind is almost non-existent but
we're trying to sail as much as we can
emma what do you think
this is
super cool out here i really hope to see
some animals though
animals
animals
the wind started light and as usual
built in the late afternoon just in time
to drop the anchor
[Music]
[Music]
well we just dropped the hook here
in san luis obispo bay
this is avila
beach right here
got a good bite we're in about
22 23 feet of water put out 150 feet of
chain
a little blustery on the way in
but it seems like it's uh starting to
calm down we should have a nice pleasant
night here
it was a good little run
it's only like 21 22 miles so we left at
noon and got here around four
it's a good good day though
oh
feels good just to sit down and relax in
a new place
uh-oh people are running what are they
doing
nothing i gotta finish up the bread
what's on the menu for tonight we have
roasted chicken and i made my tasha
bread
underway yeah i didn't even see a snake
that is it's like the fastest bread that
you can make underway emma what are you
doing
i'm just practicing my violin i don't
hear it
[Music]
[Laughter]
nice
[Music]
[Music]
anymore
this is going to be a good day because
you guys know how much i like food
and today is no different we are going
to have some grilled oysters today i've
been looking forward to this we picked
it up right before we headed out of
morro bay
and
we can get started once teal does a
quick tune-up on our old barbecue
this thing is
it needs help it needs help it needs a
tune up every uh it seems like every
couple months but uh we're gonna keep it
for as long as we can right you can only
tune this thing up so many times
but i need it to work today watch your
head i probably shouldn't be doing this
in a white t-shirt but
luckily look at that shiny new
burner element here
i shouldn't do this over the water
this is getting routine how to replace
all these components
it's well used that's for sure
it is
some good food's been grilled on here
we're good
that's it
lay em on there
teal is my girl
oyster boy
you just use me for my grilling skills
just for the grilling of the oysters
you have mastered it so
i know the hot spots
why mess with perfection right that's
right
it works it works
this is just a snack if it was up to me
i could easily do two dozen no problems
by myself but surprised you only picked
up a dozen well you know i didn't want
to be greedy and this is just the taste
okay
perfect size though i love these little
ones i know i do too
and i still have that leftover for kasha
bread so we can have that too for a
light lunch okay
you ready in just a few minutes
what up oh
fun little snacks finally and no
judgment i have to have oysters with a
glass of prosecco so
that's what i'm doing did i hear oysters
you never have to ask emma
to come to the table when there's
oysters that girl can sniff it out
eat them while they're hot
i should have gotten another dozen
well the girls are heading to shore
we'll see how they do
not much of a surf today but this should
be exciting
well that was a complete fail
we tried to kayak to shore and i timed
the sets
wrong
and
needless to say we are
wet
absolutely drenched
and i'm just so glad we didn't have it
on camera because that was embarrassing
okay time to explore
success
[Music]
[Music]
so we're going to go pick up lynn i
dropped her off about an hour ago she
has a grocery delivery coming in
there's three piers in san luis obispo
bay there's the apple up here which is
most of it's condemned now it's
dilapidated the cal poly pier which
you're not allowed to use but then all
the at the end of the bay is the san
luis obispo municipal pier which has a
dinghy dock that we can land at and
that's where we'll go find her hopefully
the groceries came in let's go get her
like butter
hopefully the groceries came in let's go
get her
like butter
[Music]
[Music]
oh man
we gotta get this thing cleaned
i don't
it's not a big deal but it's
embarrassing
got your groceries got my groceries we
are all set
one thing that's been good about coven
is delivery is pretty amazing we don't
have to walk anywhere to get groceries
anymore just deliver right to shore
watch the handle
and
we can get everything that we need
no problems and we need everything you
need
yes i do like my prosecco
i'm shaming teal now again
what's your name i'm mark
i'm ready hi mark hi randy so these guys
went out fishing today and just tore it
up and uh i've had zero luck so they're
they're sharing their bounty with us oh
yes i love this
we've had well tonight yes that is
always good yeah okay so let's fish fish
out of avila beach okay so what what
nice right now those are what are those
ones you got johnny caught and and red
cod yeah johnny connor rick that looks
del we're having fish tacos tonight fish
tacos fish tacos oh perfect i have it
there we go i have it look at that oh
yeah oh i'm excited thank you so much
guys just uh they lived here for the
past 40 or 50 years just wanted to
stop by say hi and share their bounty
look at that looks like we're going to
be eating some fish some fresh fish yum
what an unexpected surprise to have
local fishermen randy and mark stop by
with a generous gift of fresh caught
fish for us
what was supposed to be fish tacos for
the night ended up being an asian
inspired dish with fresh bok choy
steamed rice and a vietnamese
vinaigrette
[Music]
oh my god
so hot
it's so hot
actually i've been having so much fun
cooking up other fish dishes with the
other fish that teal and emma have been
catching for us it's just fun to rouse
them sometimes
the following few days was a whirlwind
for the crew
because basic would be spending the
night at a different location for four
consecutive nights
uh octopus
see him plop in he's right there
oh that's optimism
from san luis obispo bay we have to
round point conception and we'll be
making our next stop 54.5 nautical miles
south at koho bay
sailors that have transited this cape
have horror stories about the ferocity
this region can bring
we stayed in slo a few extra days to
time this leg comfortably
because we needed a 24-hour weather
window to anchor safely in this exposed
anchorage
here we are
we're in the coho anchorage
this right over here is government point
right around that
is point conception
notorious for foul weather we came
through at a good time and we did that
on purpose you know we timed it
correctly
winds are just starting to pick up just
a little bit
but we're tucked in here to the coho
anchorage
i wanted to make it here in daylight
hours it was about a 54-55 nautical mile
run today
and we made it with plenty of daylight
there's a lot of kelp beds i mean you
can see them all off in the distance
here
it's nice to get in here while you have
visibility so you can pick
just a nice spot to
give you peace of mind for the night
we haven't decided if we're gonna stay
here one night or two yet
i'm thinking
we'll see how it goes we'll wake up in
the morning see how we feel you know our
plan is to go to santa barbara but we
could also stop at goleta
i don't know
it's all up to the girls we'll we'll
talk over it
uh with coffee in the morning and if we
want to go we're going to go
it might be fun to stick around here do
some fishing
just explore it's just beautiful here
absolutely beautiful we have the entire
bay to ourselves
not one other boat in here
the open ocean is just right there
but the prominent swell is just coming
right past this bay
and
just a nice smooth motion in here
when the wind's out of the south i'm
sure it's different but right now
feels good
okay girls are downstairs now lin's
making a delicious meal i'm sure
it's time to just
unwind relax
and just take it all in
well good morning we had a great night
last night in the coho anchorage
and
as much as we like it here i think it's
time for us to head further south we are
actually officially in southern
california and i am so excited to not
have any more fog or
marine layer i'm sure that there will be
a little bit but not like what we were
dealing with in this
in northern california and the central
coast
which is funny because
seeing
when you look at the both of us and
shorts and a t-shirt per usual yep and i
am in full gear because i'm cold it is
cold this girl doesn't feel cold
teenagers
the forecast was for light winds from
the west building to 15 knots in the
afternoon
this was a short 31.6 nautical mile run
so we were tucked into goleta bay by
early afternoon
so
okay
are you gonna miss coletta
no i am not gonna miss a weather that
was not a good call
i did
it looks so pleasant somebody told you
that it was a cute place it lied
something
it was nice until about three in the
morning
well it was kind of rocky to begin with
but yeah it got really bad
we did not sleep well
that's for sure
it was a bumpy uncomfortable night in
goleta but our plan is to leave early
and head towards santa barbara
this leg was our shortest yet covering
10.2 nautical miles in less than two
hours
we were in route to the general
anchorage east of stearns wharf
but lynn made a few phone calls and was
able to secure one of those hard-to-get
and ties inside the marina so we jumped
on it
