okay guys the moment we've all been
waiting for
we have a splash date now we are
confirmed with the boatyard and in two
days
we are going back into the water come
hell our high water
because this is something we have been
waiting for for so long
and our projects are finally coming to a
somewhat
end not really but the big projects is
almost done
everything we need to do on the hard
will be done
yes in two days but we have a huge punch
list of things that we want to tie
up so this next few days is going to be
super busy
and then we're in the water i'm so happy
hard to talk with a smile isn't it it's
yes
i'm just so happy heel this makes me so
happy
better finally after all these years
we're getting scuffers for the cockpit
we have scuppers we still have the
little flappers on it
this will keep your little feet dryer
this will keep the cockpit dry
because every time we have a wave slam
our cockpit will get a little wet and
that's
we'll see you know we'll see how these
work i'm just hoping all your hair
doesn't just kind of hang down from
these
i have a solution no solution you're
keeping your hair i'll pick the hair out
that's the solution such a caveman
make me have long hair that's how i drag
you around you know that
how do you like it you should know
better it looks really good i like it
okay so how many more
we're putting in seven i put in three
basic math had before
[Music]
last one last one
was it nice to just kind of finish up
all these little lingering projects
that one looks different where's the
flapper i took it off
this is the propane locker i just wanted
to put the trim ring so they all match
of course you did of course you did i
don't want to have the flapper on
because i want
the propane to be able to flow out of
here
but it looks pretty right that's all
that matters
you're such a symmetry guy
i am what i am
okay one more off the punch list
yeah so look at this
cockpit cockpit cockpit cockpit cockpit
that's one
two three four five in the cockpit
and
galley sink
i'm not putting one on this though i
didn't want to put one on the beam
yep we're good that's not going to
bother you that not at all there's one
that's
not the same well there's some up here
too on the beans
right here
i think we're good all the flat surfaces
have scuppers on that'll keep your
little feet dry when you're walking
around in your socks
socks i plan on being bare feet
okay on to the next egg
more
yeah so you know it worked out
so teal's been working on the sail
drives and i'm just gonna check to see
if he needs anything
because i'm ready to put on those props
teal teal
that is not part of the punch list
what are you doing you guys he does this
all the time look
i leave him alone for literally five ten
minutes
what does he do he starts painting again
it needed to be done you have a problem
when that log hit is i
had a little bit of just a little bit
right there i forgot to paint it when we
had the paint out but look at that
oh it looks beautiful i'm happy how many
times has he done this
well it's gonna be how many times too
many two more times today because i have
two more coats so
i can't wait to get back in the water so
he can't do this anymore
okay i'm back on the snail ready for one
more coat anyway
drives me crazy how many coats is that
now
that's coat 10 right there um
trilox 3 3 is ablative so we're layering
thin layers on and we get about about 10
coats out of one can you know we did
this last year well
15 months ago and it did wear through a
little bit but it's been almost two
years now almost two years now yeah
but we got zero growth so you know
whatever's in here works
just make sure we get all the spots get
enough coats on here
applying them every half hour there's a
little left maybe another coat out of
this we'll see maybe we got 11 out of
this
when we removed the rudder i didn't have
quite enough clearance
so i had to excavate a little trough you
were sneaky
why did i want to dig this twice so i
left it
left it here look at this there's secret
passages now
like a buried treasure yeah it's
probably gonna be filled with water
let's see probably see if my little
slot's still here
there it is looks good looks good that's
all i need to
get this rudder in okay i'll go grab it
over here
okay go out there walk this way
this way yeah
okay just perfect okay okay let's go up
with it ready to go
grab some blocks
so
oh we have two runners again
okay i've just greased up
the shaft here we're going to put some
loctite on here i do not want this boss
hub to fall off get this to line up
come on
[Music]
there it goes like butter
like butter
i like that handy little tool
a wrench
make sure all that is tightened up got
loctite on these
and these are the
little set screws that keep that
hub from ever backing off when you're in
reverse
so i'm hitting all the grease points on
our
kiwi props we do this every haul out
we use a marine grade lithium grease
it takes a specific tip just kind of
fill this up work it in there
put it back together
yeah i feel a lot much better dry
lubed such a dork dry
transducer paint
no more particles it doesn't go down as
nice as the
bottom paint but gotta have it who cares
remember we hauled out
that this was the only spot that had
garnered
so i want to make sure we get good
protection on this
we have to put two coats on four hours
apart
24 hours before launching yeah that
stuff is thick
yeah no it's don't look too close
doesn't go down smooth but you know what
i don't care if it's ugly
yes i do it's underneath the boat
you're crazy the barnacles can complain
i don't care
that's right
okay we're only applying two coats of
this though so another four hours i'll
put the second coat down
our punchless is getting shorter and
shorter
yes it is
okay two coats done
it looks nice i don't know what you're
talking about
looks okay oh i forgot who i'm talking
to
i'm so sorry
oh that looks good
okay i'm just putting together
the new fittings for the through hole
and was back from her walk
how was the walk people it was good
compost did you enjoy that oh
i'm in his ball
okay i'm just about ready got one put
together
one more to go and we'll have these
installed
emha was actually nice enough to
volunteer to
clean our fenders before we go back in
the water
little did she know the size of the
fenders that she had to clean up
that's two down two more to go
yep actually i'm done with this one now
so just this one much
[Applause]
yeah that's fine
okay here we are something's changed
we're up
on what is it a cradle a trailer a
trailer
yard has uh picked us up removed all the
jack stands
so that gives us an opportunity to paint
uh under the jack stands where they were
so we'll get going on that tonight
because tomorrow morning first thing in
the morning we're going back in the
water
so this is that this is a weird feeling
because
the boat actually does move sideways it
feels like we're on the swing
yeah but you know what i feel almost
safer on this than i do on the jack
stands
we had an earthquake the other night and
we we kind of felt it
just a little bit okay let's get to work
a few more coats and then we're all set
yep this is coat number one we'll get at
least three on here
and the weather cooperated so i am very
happy
i know here comes your son i know
so since we've been lifted up a little
bit higher we're going to
lower the dagger boards and just kind of
hit it
just hit the leading edge with a little
bit more bottom paint as well
got it okay
there you go
going into a haul out you never
anticipate how much work is ahead for
you
obviously we were optimistic about the
amount of work and how quickly we can
bomb through our projects
weather was a huge factor for us as well
as
well everyday life living in the heart
has many challenges that slowed us down
it was either getting sick not getting
materials to arrive on time
teal throwing his back out homeschooling
filming editing and maintaining a sense
of normalcy
we felt at times we were running on
fumes but somehow
when you make that final push and basic
is back
in the water where she belongs all those
hard days seem to melt away
and seem well worth it this was a huge
accomplishment for the crew of sb basic
hey excited nervous
i don't know it's pretty cool actually
going to the water first thing this
morning you know you run through your
head
have i done everything is everything set
did i miss something
i don't think so pretty thorough
of course i laid awake last night just
reliving it just in case
it's a big day for us back in the water
i will never forget my time in napa this
is now my second challah and both times
the one thing that stands out is how
nice everyone has been to us
the yard crew were always so helpful and
friendly to me
i'm usually the only kid on the yard so
sometimes i get lonely
but i love taking compass on walks
around the marina and saying hi to
everyone here
a few things i will never forget about
this hollow is getting to fly over the
napa valley
and the san francisco bay and all the
hot air balloons floating over our boat
but i'm so glad we're getting back in
the water
[Music]
so it's official we are in the water
we're
not sinking yeah everything looks good
it feels so good to be back everybody
turn around isn't it nice
sitting in the cockpit looking at shore
rather than being on shore
looking at the water and we have our
hard top we have
shade it's so nice so this is a time to
celebrate a little early
but i think it's well deserved to have a
little celebratory
bubbly
[Music]
okay people so cheers to all our hard
work
