hey guys welcome back to ask me basic
we've been on the yard for a few weeks
now and living on the heart is kinda
hard so before we dive into any new
projects we're gonna show you what it's
like to live on the boat on the heart
okay so like what ever said life on the
heart is not easy and we all have
compromises that we have to adjust to
and I think it depends on who you ask
this crowd we all we all have slightly
different views of what it's like to
live on the heart I mean we all have
different responsibilities and some of
them require more facilities than others
and so it's tougher on one versus the
other
so when it comes to dishes you can't
wash anything on board right now because
we can't have any water going through
the drains so what we've done is we have
set up a bucket in the sink and
throughout the day whenever we use we
put it in there and first thing in the
morning I trek on down to the laundry
facility to wash your dishes it's not
fun but it's much better than the option
of just using disposables which so
wasteful
and Plesac get some steps to them too
[Music]
and that's how I do dishes kind of hurry
up today isn't actually a really special
day Emma's birthday gonna get her up she
has a friend coming over and we're gonna
go out for breakfast so happy birthday
Emma
okay let's face it while living on the
hard this room has the most effect on
all of us the head it stays nice and
clean because we can't use it we'll put
a little bucket in the sink just to
remind us that we can't use the drain
the toilet not using that either look at
the shower
it's turned into more of a storage unit
just kind of keep our shower bags in
here and our laundry can't use the
shower because like right down the drain
because our work area so we have to make
do
okay people the end of the hard day are
we off to
luckily tell me have to walk how far
down here about a quarter-mile away as
the showers we do this every day
okay overall living on the hard what do
you girls sing he's really easy and yeah
it's kind of difficult but it's not so
bad
really it's not you just got to get used
to it it changes the way that you live
for a little bit but just temporary
right it is temporary
we're getting closer every day yeah and
the other thing that's great about
traveling and doing something that's
different is the people everyone here
has been so friendly and helpful and has
made some friends
she went sailing she's done a little
boating the beach is right across the
way so she spends most of our time there
when she's not doing school it's not so
bad oh we even got to go to the the
parade downtown that was fun
did you like that yeah was really nice
we had a great family day
[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
that was awesome you were too passed out
hey good morning look at our bridge deck
stiffener is done now it just needs to
be all sanded out and fared I'll get
started on that today also bounce back
over here and continue working on these
now that this first lamination is cured
I could get this sand it out but I'm
really happy with this
these just turned out nice and flat and
they feel strong what I need to do is
sand this out and start working under
here shaping this in and get my
lamination started under here
I need laminations here more here and
start laminating up here
it's like I love to do today got the
weather for it so I'll get busy
well I think that's really great about
this yard is that when we meet apply
three stars right there let's go
[Music]
[Music]
[Applause]
well let's check this out
I've been layering glass on here and
this one is about done it's got multiple
laminations and it's about flushed out
so I'll be able to sand this out and
fair this soon the first I need to start
laminating some more here and wrap
around this trailing edge but doing the
same thing over here on a few
laminations behind on this side I'll be
able to get one or two on today and get
this one done boy that's feeling get it
done just solid container also been
bouncing on to this bridge deck
stiffener look at this I just applied
some fairing compound it's already
starting to kick and I sanded it I mean
these transitions now are invisible
just keep working that take a look at
this
it's kind of cool look what they just
hauled out supposed to got a little bit
of a history the Hawaiian chieftain it's
a boat with a lot of character
[Music]
compass what do you think that's what
you think I'll tell you what I think I
think it's pretty amazing but for my
chicken scratch just these little notes
I was doodling on a piece of paper
actually two piece of paper Lin actually
took all those notes to the fabricator
and he made this and it actually fits I
mean it fits almost perfect I did have
to shape a little bit right here just on
this little tip besides that it looks
like it's gonna bolt right in
sun's out I want to get a project done I
think I'll just crank this out real
quick make me feel good about today got
some epoxy Karen downstairs anyway since
this was a blind connection here I had
the welder weld in a 3/8 inch plate in
here I need to drill and tap that first
I've laid out where all the hardware
goes now it's just a matter of drilling
it in
[Music]
okay everything's drilled out
I have butyl tape around the holes this
is a wet Locker I'm not too concerned
with any water getting through here but
I think we're ready to install this
I think it's gonna work Wow
well that went pretty smooth everything
lined right up look at this
all I need lynZ help to tighten it up
backer plates on the backside of this
this 90 core is actually inch and a
quarter thick on the deck an inch and a
quarter thick on the face here so the
backer plates are which right in the
corner worked out pretty slick actually
this is bolted from inside
long wait for Lin think I'll build a
couple decks here filled this deck and
the background I'm not gonna lie
feels good to drop the sander for a
little bit and just physically build
something I'm using the starboard lumber
to make the decks this is actually a
remnant from the window trim and let's
see that was way back in episode 9 when
I did the window trim and this is one of
the tales from it
I saved this cuz I knew I'd have
projects down the road and this is
perfect for this I'm gonna cut this out
router the edges and it should make a
great substrate to mount a cushion too
one day
[Music]
[Music]
I'm not quite sure how the cushions are
gonna attach to this yet so I just put a
eighth inch round over just to ease that
edge slightly until we figure that out
okay just set these in place
seconds going to work out
we'll get this exactly where I want it
and attach these permanently okay let's
see how this turned out that nice backer
plates in here nice and strong let's see
what it looks like
oh I get it you like it yes it's way
better than standing all day isn't it
can you see over the top okay all right
for the project down so a lot of you
guys asked why we didn't put out a video
two weeks ago and we have a very good
reason for it
oh yeah it's tough I lost my mom it's
been devastating so we just we dialed it
back and family comes first this is a
huge loss for our family especially Emma
and just trying to get a grip of what's
happened this is very unexpected and we
love her very much
so anyways it's been a tough time for
our family it's been tough so projects
and boat life everything kind of goes
into the back burner because we gotta
take care of ourselves and our family
first and that is our highest priority
it is but so we're slowly getting back
into the swing of things and you know
life happens things happen but we're
gonna be okay
and we're gonna keep pushing through
because that's something that she would
want us to do and that is to pursue your
dreams and live life to the fullest just
makes me wanna just work even harder to
get to that goal because that's the
right thing to do
[Music]
so here's to you mom
[Music]
you
