This week on Kawai we leave Preveza and navigate through Lefkas canal. We are the last in line as we enter the 3.5 mile canal and enjoy watching the locals fishing on the banks of the canal.

We enjoy a nice downwind sail to our next anchorage, Vlikho Bay. This large bay is full of liveaboards and is well protected from the wind and swell. We use the time to freshen up, enjoy some local hospitality however can't swim due to the large jellyfish population in the bay.

The next destination is Ithaca. We get some great winds and sail the 20nm, with the wind slightly ahead of the beam, Kawai loves this wind angle and we love this sail. Ithaca is my favourite Greek Island and has amazing beaches, lush vegetation and some stunning anchorages.

We visit Sarakiniko Beach, Filiatro Beach, Tilemakos Beach and Skhoinos Beach. We spend most of our time in Filiatro Bay, enjoy swimming, hiking, exploring and cleaning the local beaches. Unfortunately the beaches have a variety of litter so we spend a couple of hours returning them to their natural beauty.

Our time at Filiatro comes to an end as the weather takes a turn for the worse and we sail to the sheltered bay of Vathy, the main harbour in Ithaca.

About us:

Our names are Jason and Tracey and we traded our house, cars, business, job and security for freedom, adventure, travel and living simply amongst nature and the seas on our 45 foot Hanse 445 sailing boat, Kawai.

We don't know exactly where the winds will take us at this stage but over the next year we hope to sail to Turkey, Greece, Montenegro, Croatia.

last week on Kauai we explored the

crystal-clear waters of southern Corfu

before sailing to provider this week we

continue south through the left cos

canal and stay a while at a couple of

Anchorage's around leftists along with a

variety of wildlife we set sail for

Jason's favorite Greek island Ithaca

this coastline is less developed and

full of stunning beaches we swim explore

hike and clean this area we also have

some unusual generator problems after

five days in Preveza it was time to

continue south a short five nautical

miles to the left cos canal left fifth

canal the second time yeah

we've got

but at the end of the line

otherwise we run up the back of the

webcast Canal opens on the hour the

boats converge at the entrance before

making a single file through the canal

the left cos Canal is around three and a

half miles long and it separates Lucas

from the mainland making it an island I

was surprised to learn that construction

of the canal started way back in 650 BC

once the last boat being us this time

passes the bridge the bridge shuts and

life returns to normal

once we exited the canal we enjoyed a

down wing sail to the next Anchorage

flick obey as you enter the bay you pass

the large resort town of Nidre and

tranquil Bay tranquil Bay and bleak obey

are filled with hundreds of liveaboards

many of which spend the winter

not long after arriving we encountered

locals of a different kind the jellyfish

population and a couple of turtles there

are so many jellyfish in this Bay and

this morning they're all clumping

together some reason I have not seen

that before

perhaps that is the way they sleep I'm

not sure anyone knows what they're doing

in the generator again well it's been a

bit of a nemesis it's not really its

fault we I saw the exhaust guard up

yesterday and so we checked the filter

and water filter and there was a

jellyfish clogged up and his jellyfish

can be so fine I've gotten through the

filter and the air we've in drain and

pipes and Underland pipes and but yeah

she seems to be working fine

yeah she's all clear luckily she didn't

go into the engine anyway yeah it smelt

real good no it didn't it and we figured

it out so yeah

hold it and that's mystery no jellyfish

around at the moment so maybe insane

I've seen half is nothing around another

day few obstacles in the water beside me

yeah we dodged the jellyfish but yeah

we're heading to shore some pretty cool

little places across here well four

burners again and the bay that had their

really there's a really big storm here

and yeah and today a little bit worried

but yeah like a hurricane tornado came

through you not boats over and all sorts

of stuff so uh yeah this happens to be

today universe through a storm rolled it

yep have a couple of beers

yeah got a pretty nice little yeah bit

of a shame to be leaving Bleecker Bay

it's been really nice II really

protected it's been blowing a fair bit

outside of here but I really felt

anything in here so it's been a good

little Anchorage yeah the only bad with

the jellyfish I think yeah yep so we're

in search of a new Anchorage today and

hopefully one that we can swim in

swimming forward to a swim Wow all right

well let's get you think her up and

we'll head off

that's cool well it is a glorious day

out here today we are in the Ionian Sea

heading to Ithaca today just left left

guests Jaime and no wind as predicted

there was supposed to be wind's coming

from the north so it was gonna be an ice

dam in sail but it has not arrived so

hopefully it will get here soon and we

can say all the rest of the way anyway

well I was planning to get all my video

work completed on this trip yeah what

happened

Wow the winds picked up which they put

they'll play in that way that's why we

left what we did we thought they'd be

coming but yeah I'm gonna it's too

exciting wasn't it yeah you trying to

get quiet on the side

so yeah maid maid doing the audio

particularly difficult and at worth it

it's fun it's what we're here to do

sales well we are back in Ithaca we have

been here before and we really love it

here the reason I love Ithaca and its

coastline is that it's mostly untouched

you feel free and you can really take in

the sights and sounds of nature very

good nomads feel bad to talk loud you

know we're gonna check out more of the

island probably today we'll head off to

another beach and this morning we're

just having our coffee do a bit of

exercise we did clean a beach here last

time here so we were thinking we might

do that again

I guess there's lots of beautiful places

on ichika and we are to discover some

new ones today yeah can't wait

well it's like days like this where

they're out it's classy and they're

seriously no other boats in any of the

Anchorage's which includes a Friday

all the child's gone back so we've got

the pick of the equities which we

they're fun I see some real beauties

today all right you're spoiled for

choice as you styled the southeast coast

of Ithaca crystal clear water lush

vegetation and the many local goats we

have been lucky to visit Ithaca twice

both out of peak season and it's been

magical

we chose the large inlet of flat Trobe a

once we cruised in we thought we might

never leave we anchored in ten meters of

sand off one of the large striking white

cliff faces this Bay has three beaches

two of which are only accessible by boat

after cleaner Beach yeah well we're

gonna see anyway it's awesome close to

where we were anchored anyway well this

cruise just in here that's pretty bloody

beautiful and yeah we'll walk this Beach

and pick up anything we can we've got a

recycling a tan on recycling bag no

matter how isolated or beautiful the

beach we are always greeted by rubbish

plastic and foam and usually the two

biggest culprits

look a bit busier now yeah I think the

worst of its foam which carries a lot of

its wing the whole bag is foam so yeah

it's and that breaks up into smaller

bits and I think that's generally a lot

of the damage that's to the wildlife is

fish and birds eating a little bits of

foam and can't caught it in their throat

so it's gonna take us a while here but

again like like everything you've got to

uh you just gotta get in and do it will

feel really good today when we're

chilling back on our boat we know that

this Beach is clean

good that's the plan anyway so we're

walking back with our stashes yep

thinking and talking about its

hang-up rubbish and we're just saying

how good it feels to have done it really

good and no one did anything and the

beaches would be filled so know we we

plan to do a couple of beaches each week

don't always bring the footage because

show everything but yeah we are we're

out there doing it so hopefully others

can do it as well

a little bit you pick up it feels like

you say being an animal so yeah oh yeah

this is I might keep this man for the

boat just a reminder of Ithaca yep

sparkling water yeah it's nice walking

back along the beach you've cleaned and

water it's beautiful and gives you hope

when we left here maybe not so much a

little bit lost I mean yeah maybe well

maybe we should just go to the road

found the right path we think that

there's kawaii eyes down there in the

bay nice view

a few more friends what's about the

surroundings

what are we come across there's lots of

little places just scattered all over

the mountains they're not your typical

has like Australia with the backyard

they're just little sheds everywhere

little yeah I got the veggie gardens

dolly came and barking us so we got out

of that one real quick yeah we just keep

walking down paths and ending up seems

like in people's yeah

trying to be a mountain goat in thongs

not gonna work Josh hmm three euros

probably the best for euros I've ever

spent

really

beeps off a month yeah good height good

laughs a lot but since exams 600,000

steps into that food this means we can

enjoy the day feeling that we spent

several days in Philly at Tropez

exploring and swimming the rock

formations are truly incredible and we

would have stayed even longer if it

wasn't for the weather tres managed to

get in one last workout before we headed

for Valley a more protected bay with

severe storms forecast next week we take

shelter in Buffy I mean absolutely

smashing a storm it is much worse than

we were expecting and Kauai is hit by

another boat after the weather settles

we are very excited to head forward
