Ah there you are! Can you remember the exact moment an idea was born?
I can and it didn't start with a beer, it started on our friend Steve's boat,
but that's not his boat, this is his boat and he took us out for a day trip
on Sunday July 31st 2016, That was
when the idea was born! Initially the
idea was to buy a boat that was big
enough to cruise out to Queensland's
offshore reefs for scuba diving on long
weekends and stuff like that, however
once we started looking at boats the
plan began to morph and it got bigger
and bolder! We looked at all sorts of
boats, from little two cabin coastal
cruisers, to small sailing catamarans and
big catamarans. The more we looked the
more we learned and we very quickly learned that we couldn't afford to
purchase or even maintain a catamaran. That revelation was quite helpful because
it narrowed our search to only monohulls.
Just a short time into our monohull research, some economic
realities became obvious, you could buy exactly the same model and exactly the
same year boat for 50,000 Australian dollars cheaper if you bought it in Europe.
AU$50,000 certainly goes a long way.
That financial realization changed everything, suddenly the starting point of
our journey was on the opposite side of the planet and to get ourselves and our
possessions there we were limited by
airline baggage allowances. It's no
exaggeration that we spent hundreds and
hundreds of hours researching boats in
all parts of Europe and we did learn a
lot, but at the end of the day, window
shopping is no substitute for actually
getting in there and trying something on
for size. We had to get to Europe but before we could do that we had a house to sell.
Our son Luke had just moved out of our family
home and we were now technically empty
nesters so we spent the next three and a
half months renovating our house. Good
friends helped out along the way, it was
a massive job but the end result proved
that it was well worth doing.
Burning trees. What's going on here? Oh for God sake be careful.
Number one son and number one sons helper.
Thank you!

Oh my god you did know that the
First World War finished?

Oh yeah that's it, that is it, it's me the
film person. They're so busy out there
cutting weeds down and mulching that
they haven't got time to film me so I'm
doing it all myself. And this is the end
result of three and a half months hard
work.
