Caribbean for a 600-mile classic whilst

Konrad Coleman's solo trip around the
world was much more than a yoga he told
everything compete in the world's
toughest supporting challenge the fond a
globe greatly 24,000 miles alone but
like many of the 29 Schism he had to
share a problem if you boys you a heaven

man I really wish we had done just one
of the many wipeouts caused by repeated
auto pilot failure but in 110 days here

broken above deck forcing him to climb
the mast on several occasions this is
the thing that I hate leading to periods
of real fear is terrifying so when the
33 year old New Zealand's across the
finish line aboard with battle-scarred
Amaka succeed he has achieved his dream
he had bucked the odds and added his
name's were lists of solo
circumnavigation a mix that is shorter
than for those of a team interested
he had also become the first Kiwi to
complete the bond a globe and the first
to do so without using any possible
man's trip have taken him perilously
close to the edge losing his mast 700
miles from the finish a jeopardize of
entire campaign in the final straight
he'd run out of food struggling to meet
water starvation was now a real
possibility in a race that had already
thrown a constant stream of obstacles in
they were definitely federal several
times that I thought that there was too
much that was impossible that I couldn't
finish and yet having that moment of
self-doubt was was what drove me to find
the energy to to make sure that that
wasn't like it was afraid to moving that
was the end of the race and while I've
lots of old days of sailing and one
really useful fail on which we go verbal
ad net allowed me to say not that I
haven't done all of this work I haven't
changed my life I haven't gone across
the Atlantic I haven't moved to France I
haven't learned French I haven't created
an entire new life I haven't cried at my
desk trying to find fortune I haven't
found true races on the world in
preparation for this moment to have it
fall apart right now but Coleman was to
come close not returning
what terrifying moment was not the bit
laughing that was the night that I fell
overboard
I've had problems with the mainsail I
had to take it down at night and 35
knots upon those approaches to take him
a second Reese when I had a problem with
the main I clambered up into the into
the lazy bag that that was holding them
that folds the mainsail and was sort of
hugging it into place to try and make
them to the mess that had been my once
proud men fell the lazy Jack's broke and
that let the booms clam down on the side
of the boat and I was riding the boom
like a horse and instantly what there
wasn't even time to sink and I had
fallen from the boom and I didn't have
the wherewithal to grab onto anything I
was in the water at night
my headlamp had fallen from my head

I was dragging through the water as if I
was charging wrong
plunged into a sea temperature of just 5
degrees Coleman was in one of the most
remote places on earth the southern
ocean
my leash was was attached to the boom
which was above my head and out of my
reach and the vote was likewise out of
my reach eventually with the rolling of
the boat and a wave came and pushed me
towards the part of the boat and I
grabbed onto a stanchion and pulled
myself up onto the side of the boat and
however then had a problem with my leash
that who once saved my life
just three instance beforehand was now
stopping me from getting on board and
getting into real safety and and so I
had a very perilous moments where in the
dark
I had to disconnect the harness hanging
onto just one stanchion they kind of go
and then finally climb into some hands
and safety on the boat now it's
terrifying that that's what gave
Michelle shot my my father was killed in
an accident on the boat and my first
racer on the world
I lost my crew member Sam good child
overboard and it took me a long time 30
minutes of searching and dead bait
Commission's to get them back during
which time he was able to just stay
alive and so it was really tough for me
to be on the receiving end of that to
find myself helping them in the water
yet the story he told at the time was
rather different there had been no
mention live near me pretty terrible
night I think the reader what a bet came
to connection for the month and the
thrift the sale and I managed to get
fell down but ladx brooch now I have a
mainsail that simple nothing at all I
didn't tell anybody about that why I
told one person I called my boat captain
China and because I had a very tangible
need to talk say this is what this
happened I was died I need to talk about
my mother's the widow of the sea and my
wife is already afraid of what I go
through every day and so I didn't see
the need to hedge their suffering
collectively it was something that I had
to just kind of keep bottles fold up
inside me that in turn reminded me as I
need to success on every single day and
not add too much electricity to the
daily lives of my loved ones
terrible to hear that
but to be fair when I don't care about
him for very long hours when you've got
a problem that's exactly where my mind
goes so you know I don't I don't exactly
need to know that it has happened to him
even if she hadn't I would have that
same thing in my head in addition to the
support of his wife and show crew Conrad
had another motivation to succeed
my younger brother committed suicide and
it just becomes a years ago and and I
thought I thought a lot about Andrew
during this race and not into much today
self as presence but just that ie and I
wanted to show what was the other edges
in the world an example of never giving
up because I I was heartbroken by his
position and and and by his circumstance
that led should had driven them to it
and yet and everybody has really dark
days and sometimes there are lots of
dark days lined up in a row and they can
really hard to deal with
why is it the worst day though it has
the best nonsense look at that the
opportunity to show that we're possible
is so much more than where we think and
and if that example can be useful for
for somebody and then that I'd be very
very touched and honored by that

participate had contributed to to
something more than 50 euro the
thousands that lined the harbour
entrance greet him will prove that the
trip had indeed be more than simply a
story of a young people
at this stage none including his wife
had any idea of how close he comes you

story during his circumnavigation at
Maidan and sailing celebrity Conrad
Coleman's hadn't won the race but he had
survived every offshore trail of the
nightmare and to those that had
witnessed his dogged determination he
was an inspiration
