hello from Dominica to the world and
locked down where he's sitting here in
curfew and wanted to let you know how it
is for us here and how it feels what the
regulations are and what we experience
like most Caribbean countries also
Dominica shut down the borders close the
country and we're all sitting at home
and the government here reacted very
fast and very well even that we don't
have that much cases yet they protect
the country pretty good make good
measures and yeah we're sitting here on
the boat and behind us you see the empty
beach and a Sunday that's completely
unusual usually in Sunday's you have
music people on the beach people
swimming dancing playing football
yelling kids boats fishing boats driving
around but as you see you see nothing
there was anyway very impressive I I
could not believe that local people here
that they are so anticipated anticipate
in in the whole restrictions and
everything I thought it might be a very
very hard thing to to really get
everybody from the streets and let them
at home but I'm very very surprised and
you can really see the dominican people
they are used to get out of catastrophic
situations they know how to deal with
with things with disasters when things
not go as usual and yeah at the moment
it's it's a very nice Sunday but it
feels kind of a little bit spooky so
yeah anyways he also felt it the other
days before the total lockdown before
the curfew and we're still able to go in
town ourselves for some groceries people
are saying it feels like before the
hurricane before Maria everybody is kind
of preparing and stuff stocking up I
mean nobody did really like the extended
shoppings like we heared from the States
or Europe but the people look for each
other but still they they had the
feeling something's going on you realize
the difference
sugar was interesting here was the first
thing running out well while others were
low on toilet paper I don't know still
for what reason
I don't get that as it's not a digestive
virus or anything here the country of
run out of sugar first no there is no
such thing like panic or anything they
remain very very calm and kind of like
really ready for it and also the way the
government talks to the people it's in a
very very easy understandable manner and
I think our countries they really can
take a leave of their book it's very
educational I had the feeling really
like sensitive not just on the problem
but also like direct solutions how
parents can handle the the schooling
situation with the kids really examples
that you can obviously follow how to do
the hand washing I mean even here when
the whole thing was still weeks and
weeks before lockdown we already had the
Health Department here
educating people in the hand-washing and
it was so simple and and fun I mean they
were did they had 20 seconds hand
washing with twice singing happy
birthday because that's the length of 20
seconds so we're standing there like
doing all the the hand washing procedure
and the whole group was singing happy
birthday to have the length of time so
that's a lot of like fun but also
practical examples how they get in touch
with the people and how they manage the
whole thing really positive I also had
the feeling the schools reacted very
well and fast also what I notice is that
they very very quick acted against that
social distancing because in a character
of the the most important thing is that
people work together that people stick
together in this moment and now to tell
these people to stay away from one
another that doesn't really work and we
still are supposed to take care for each
other and they very quickly started to
call it physical distancing which I
appreciate it a lot it's not a social
distancing it's a
of this something only and that's what I
said don't social distance from another
in this times its expect especially
important to stay socially together not
visiting the elderly in the elderly home
to not bring them in danger but stay in
contact with them they have a phone they
have possibilities with employees there
to make a video call you can bring stuff
that gets forwarded to them but do not
socially distance from each other just
physical and that's a great experience
and an example they made here that's
true they also keep going with the
schools which was very impressive so
very quick they rigged up in certain
schools some home schooling via internet
where they have contact with a teacher
by using the laptop or phones or
whatever device they have and there is
still some some kids in need that can
wear parents right now I cannot go for
work and earn the money so we thought
there's a very easy way to to maybe
support them and there is actually a
organization down in south of the island
that takes care for the SS for a Yee I
have to put that in the description and
basically it goes on that they collect
numbers of the students together need a
top-up and there's this app called Bing
where you can top up every prepaid card
worldwide we use that since many years
now and it works always great you can
top up each prepaid card prepend number
just with your credit card and so
everybody who is interested to help in
america can just write us a quick
message and we will provide phone
numbers of students and because about
seven US dollar per week and per family
to get them online and let them take
part on the online school the person
takes a certain amount of data to do all
the schooling and a lot of families are
just not able to
provide that yet especially when they're
not working and that's a great support
for the local community well they don't
know us they may have seen the two of us
but not the other cruisers that are just
here for a couple weeks now so for them
every white person is like a possible
threat from one of the other islands
that have way more cases so that
possible threat and that's why the
health department asked to stay out of
town for the cursors to keep the fear of
the local population down and so the
same has happened in other places as
well big gatherings were prohibited no
president yeah and so the Saturday fruit
market in town was canceled what was a
bummer for us because that's the main
source of our groceries would we get
fresh produce and so like what the hell
do we do where do we get those stuff we
don't want to live on on pasta I'm Brad
what's wale up in the supermarket as we
are here on the island already for a
while we got in contact with one of our
farmer friends named gumbo and made
pre-orders with boats and he's supplying
us twice a week at the pace building on
each with his fresh produce fruits and
vegetables
let's go to the building
this is mangu market thank you thank you
thank you very much Joanna and angie
from bamboo mara for assisted in
bringing this here for the for the
cruises every patroness was a very long
way every dollar goes towards a family
the you know the farmers the they are
not necessarily the people here with the
most money so every dollar that that is
spent here today who stores helping kids
go to school moves towards helping the
farmer put an extension on his building
Gustavo's if farmer help in helping in
the society so thank you very much we
are also happy that we have all of these
fresh produce yet that we can share with
you in the world
Dominika to the world everything here is
natural everything here is organic fresh
and yes we're prone so don't many go to
the world the best mr. bee after the

taxi one more service nice piece big
piece of pumpkin from friends here I was
already canning perfect to make some
sweet and sour pumpkin can't clean that
cut it in pieces papaya mango
passionfruit Jim this way there is some
peppers and onion usually there's the
original recipe requires zucchini but
there's no Sookie nee available I just
made
can't covers and onion and that these
two is mango papaya hot sauce
as I love the fruity spicy with a fish
I like making fruit flavored hot sauce I
got the pumpkin in the pressure put
sweet-and-sour dressing that has to cook
for a while and that's getting hot down
here
so let's get upstairs go to the dentist
we got one tooth pulled out but now with
corona curfew just emergencies are
allowed to sure and as pulling out
fathoms is not an emergency I'm gonna do
that
at least we have the right tools for it
I think I got a cut a few times in there

they haven't had so much that it made me
stumble I just wasn't serious
Cheers homemade coconut punch only time
I've ever had it so we're back in the
Sun and to follow the Health Ministry
Department's rules there's also one
thing when we do our markets we should
wear masks and that was next to
interject really good and at least they
keep you from always touching your face
so it kind of makes sense and I believe
that we probably have to wear some sort
of masks for the next couple of months
but we keep going fishing course
