I wear when I go sailing and ever I like
to wear the weather today is really
light winds from the east and the tide
is against us as well and we're having
East so got the boats are on just
popping along about three knots through
the water
two and a half knots of ground and and
this wind is quite chilly and Foreman
although the forecast is due to be
lovely later up indeed the forecast had
promised us that we were going to have
some force for easterly's and some
sunshine but for now we were happy just
a motor sail East at just short of two
knots it was quite nice the wind has
been up and down and after a couple of
hours it was time to check our position
on the chart because we knew something
was coming up on the chart those
rippling waves so we're gonna have to go
quite wide
and then beyond that is Gary's you gotta
be careful it's not to challenge so
we'll stay so a couple of tacks later
took us where we wanted to be but by
this point the wind had shifted and we
have to abandon sailing all together you
can see start point a lighthouse just
off to the part
a quick check on the hand bearing
compass tells us exactly where we are
and that position with the GPS we
plotted on the chart
but what are these wibbly wobbly bits
Nina was talking about
[Music]
but thankfully it wasn't too long before
we were over those and onto the scary's
are they scary I'm scary anyway they're
shallow and this meant of course nina
could be in my favourite place making
dinner
Wow it's got a fresh chili and rice
enjoy bye Rick rock
just as we approach
the day mark outside darkness so we're
gonna be sailing on a little bit longer
which is why we thought we'd have tea
and the light but probably got another
maybe I don't know two hours till we get
to the reality at this point however was
the motion of the ocean like a li
beginner to make me feel squiffy don't
feel queasy
[Music]
and later with star point well behind us
I was back on top form and helming again
looking at the amazing scenery as we
come in around brixon sadly though the
batteries run out on the camera and that
means you don't get to see how wonderful
it was to come in to Brixham in the dark
so good morning
it's Saturday now here we are in
beautiful bricks and Harbor
it's a very nice set of facilities the
chicks got it wrong it's summer it's
this is actually sunrise really sorry I
wasn't exactly cheap must be thirty quid
for the 26 footer and I've got a nice
shower this morning which is very
enjoyable and just enjoying the sunshine
now having a lovely cup of tea and we'll
be preparing our breakfast shortly which
of course Nina will do because she's
amazing at that type of thing hello
baked them beans and shortly
yummy as well as having a rather nice
marina Brixham Harbor is also a working
fishing area it hasn't always been this
nice though when william of orange
landed at Brixham in 1688 on his way to
claim the throne from James a second he
stepped ashore in a fairly sleepy
fishing village nestling in a quiet
court that the southern end of tour
there it was sheltered from the
prevailing westerly winds by the steep
hills around Barry head but otherwise
had no protection from the elements
fishing vessels then as they do today
dry out in what is the Inner Harbor at
low tide ah they anchor just offshore by
the middle of the 18th century the
village had begun to expand and saw had
the trade and then the harbor got bigger
there's plenty to see and do in modern
brixon Harbor the Mayflower Garden
volunteers have done a great job of
making it look pretty there's plenty of
shopping
Valente of places to eat and drink to
and of course that's what we wanted to
do
but since we'd only paid for one night
in the marina it was time to plan where
we are going next
get yourself a cruising almoner we've
just got this one 2019 the last one we
had was 2008 2008 just a bit out of date
so this was a lovely Christmas doesn't
think Union and the area that we're in
talks with a little section about making
your way from Plymouth around to it's
our very area and we're looking brine
creams for tonight as well so in Tauber
Italy we've got an El Greco in the
southwest corner of the bed and I click
in five metres three cables so they have
the camera
we're here in Brixham Albury Cove is
here so literally just around the corner
so potentially we're gonna go and look
that see what that's like
if we don't like that we're going to
head around to sulk north tongue maybe
timber not timing that's way your thing
and with a passage plan made kind of it
was time to say goodbye to what was a
very nice marina
[Music]
so we cut around the corner to Alberico
just to have a little yeah sit on the
anchor nice peaceful time that was
quickly ruined by the water equivalent
of Hell's Angels I don't know what they
would be called but they're very loud
and fast and constant
[Music]
enjoy ously however as the Sun is
beginning to set the noise has slowly
disappeared our neighbors have all left
us gone back to their homes with the
exception just one noisy person over
there I think we're in for a beautiful
if not slightly rocky sunset and evening
[Music]
father
posture histology
so we are we are here on this lovely
little Bay
elrico and we're gonna be woken up by
jet skis and that's when we're going to
head off run wrong we're gonna make our
way on the motor because it would be
against the time we're gonna make my way
around to dart yeah or maybe Kings we're
and we can sort of check it out the
visits mornings this stuff on tunes and
maybe get a shower and then we can go on
our way back cool sounds maybe if this
other boat sank we are there we can do
that too well maybe we could come out
just take a time in which spot there's
that's where I want to stop and then
we're gonna have to make our way around
here
it's very water probably by about three
o'clock so go away around here before
coming into evening soccer maybe we're
going to make our way up on a bug me
that would be nice Kingsbridge I think
problem like a South called shuffle
so that's hot fan it sounds like the fun
just happened as you were telling me
about what you've planned there wanted a
good sample so why do we need to be
around here at that time
oh because the current has changed it's
gonna be really rough we don't want to
be like there cuz it cuz it's just
really like shallow walternate's is
amazing actually so so far out and then
you've got like this bit
that's kinda nice but yeah I think yousa
missed and when they came around the
other day as well yesterday well good
morning bang on cue 8 or 9 what should
come whizzing past but to high-speed
water health angel air on don't work out
which piece that is there won't forget
it Green something Beach it's whizzing
round and round round in circles I think
from enjoying themselves on the holiday
aside from Westar what we're
and goodnight an anchorage overall at 11
minutes past 5:00 the and Krell arm
sounding that was just because had so
much anchor chain out and I've got him
tonight 36 meters I'd like to change as
the tide to turn and have to smaller and
limit on the alarm 120 yards actually
Neela so that workers up yeah I was
quite a bit of confusion suddenly they
like what the heck snap alarm I've never
heard before
they're always good but you can see we
are still here so not the same call fair
right lovely now it's time to get along
waiting draught healthy for my honey so
with breakfast done the anchor of the
ensign in and we set off sailing well
mind your head
[Music]
and with a slowly dying wind all
together but the sails away and made our
way to Nina's Beach Anchorage
[Music]
and after a very relaxing time and the
beach there on anchor time to make our
way back around the start point through
the wiggly wobbly bits and RAM to salt
up I've had a little snooze
well Nina was driving but still bit but
as you can see it gets bit wrong people
in this beautiful weather that do the
glorious weather sudden feet shining but
we're supposed to sit for cables away
from the lighthouse until it's there
bearing our 320 and then we conclude
goeth off somewhere over there that was
you go up soul curve and then you turn
towards Kingsbridge and it's first thing
on the right there
because we ran out of darling no tea no
coffee
no cups of tea no meals oh my word
we got some names
the greats working
the fridge is a blue bag of cold ice
blocks and the microwave is a black bag
that attracts the Sun so I've found a
little bit of wind I thought I'll see if
we can motor sail but you'll see how I'm
in the shade it just so happens that the
Sun is blocking out this is the sail is
blocking out the SONA
if I have to put the sail down have some
more bit of sauce I've never done
there's sunshine challenges are hard and
then last as he dope winds to build or
sales is bad enough
6:00 p.m. Neely on Sunday not the engine
running still some literally only just
only just turned it off book sales up
say it again so that alarm was our
half-meter warning this evening in
Salkin we have decided to come to South
need help zero lastly we just run
aground officially
[Music]
[Music]
it really is very exciting exploring
little rivers
just ahead of us I can see a little
white like see another two dinghies
there but the chart says that this all
dries out completely
it's like debris in the water as well
well here we are
all securely a shot thankfully we made
it up the river Nina have you reckon and
now the adventure continues doesn't it
I'm not entirely sure where this port is
but we've been walking down the street
for a little while here I'll say Street
it's her yeah then we've seen drunken
people come back this way so there must
be oh that's definitely that's no that's
not real is it
no parking keep clear road access
[Laughter]
the next morning we made use of the
fantastic half hour free parking at
Sulkin marina and use the free showers
to our we welcomed Selena our friend to
sail back with us to Connecticut so
we're starting here we're going around
out so could pass bolt-head hotel and
then we take a straight line to the new
stone depending on the wind and then
we're gonna go past the shack stone the
breakwater and into turnt up we got our
new crew mate to work straightaway
hoisting the sales and helming today was
the strongest wind that we'd had for the
whole weekend and with Selena at the
helm doing an amazing job we were able
to relax a little bit and send Nina into
the galley again it's got a little bit
like us so is tipping a little bit so
I'm holding on tight
oh we can see there is because we got
gas the jungle rate nor the DIY shop was
in Sunbury it was just a yeah which had
everything so I've even got somewhere I
don't know where it is I even got some
silicon not sealant which needs doing
but on the helm is she's just taken to
it she absolutely when is the last time
you sailed before sailing today we're
gonna do we name our also helm to Selena
now rather than Susan we wanted to enjoy
our dinner in a relatively flat bolt so
we figured it was best to heave -
leaving - is when you put the jib on the
wrong side of the boat sheets in the
main as tight as you can and then let go
of everything the boat tends to sit nice
calm and flat which gives us a little
bit of time to enjoy our dinner and to
chat together
[Music]
I don't know if you can see the moose
stunt coming into shop and then the my
little boo store next to it so we're on
a dead run now the wind is shifting
around us winds tend to do and we're
really struggling I said earlier how we
didn't have a spinnaker but what we do
have is a spinnaker pole which I have
hung out now onto the jib and you'll
notice
the men on the other side so we're we're
goose wings is really really well and
with the wind directly behind us
it was easy sailing home past the new
storm past the shag stone and back into
Plymouth so if you've liked our little
episode here please do hit the like and
the subscribe buttons and all of that
and well when we will do it again
sometime
thank you
you
