today the project is to put the new
anchor chain on the boat so I need to
find the end of it load it in two
[Music]
so this stuff weighs about a pound in
half per foot and I've got a hundred
feet so that's 150 pounds of Steel right
there and I test
[Music]
so I got this TV cable that probably
dates back to the 1990s and it probably
was put on a couple of owners ago today
it comes off because I don't watch TV
and it's probably not even a good cable
anymore so let's cut it there we go
now I don't have to worry about that
getting in the way
[Music]
you probably can't see it on the camera
there but we're now at the official end
of the road the chain is kind of tied
off to a bit of rope which attaches to
the boat and prevents it from spooling
out entirely and losing the anchor so
now we need to go into the anchor Walker
down below and cut it cut it free I'm
filming this at the same time as a
episode 28 right now and letting the
engine paint dry but we'll come back to
episode 28 once I'm done with the
episode 29 you can tell how little I
come back here because it's so crowded
and dusty so the anchor kind of ties off
onto this braided line right here and
then it looks like I've got another 25
feet of line
[Music]
guess I'm gonna have to pull it down
here back down put that free once I get
it free I'll be good to go I want to
give want to give that line a bath too
before I put it back in here so we're
gonna have to pull it back up through
there not to the deck you'll notice I
have another chain going up the other
side that's because I have two anchors
one is fully rope Road when I say all
rope I mean like most of it is rope
I see 120 feet or so of rope but the
first 15 or so or chain yeah if you've
never been inside your anchor Locker
this is what indeed so I've got my
scissors here I'm going to now this is
actually the reason why you don't just
go with a hard connection on your anchor
chain because if this were an emergency
situation I need to be able to cut
through and get off my anchor for
example if a uncontrollable boat is
coming right at me I can just let out
all my chain tie a fender onto it so it
doesn't sink and then cut it loose that
way I can come back for it we're and
everything's safe but
I just realized I didn't film any of
that but you know there's the aftermath
I got it cut off there I'm gonna try to
feed that up and out of the locker now
Oh walking my only light source there we
go cool that is out so now I'll need to
get the entire rope out give it a bath
and then we'll come back in a bit and do
the other part of it so that's why I
hate to replace the entire chain because
there's a lot of places like that on it
and that's not gonna work for me so
let's get the Rope out that was a
hundred feet so if worse came to worse I
could theoretically let out over 300
feet of anchor looks like that might be
the the end of it well cool
let's go back down below and check it
out make sure that is actually the end
of it so it looks like these lines are
just tied together which makes sense you
don't really need them separate but all
the chain is going to pile up right here
on the right side of the flocker so I
might need to reorganize this side the
port side of my locker to make sure that
the chain has enough space because the
new chain is a little bit bigger than
the old chain but not by much so we'll
see
all right that's fine okay so for bath
I'm there actually well I don't want to
put a wet road back in the locker so I'm
gonna let it dry out trip it and in the
meantime we can take this off figure out
how I'm going to what I'll need to do
now is get the new chain nothing onto
the bow at least what I might do is a
while that's drying feed it all on up
onto the boat through the Gypsy
but I just want to get it out of the car
and yeah let's try that
[Music]
[Music]
well I'm gonna have to wait for the
weather to clear up for this to really
dry out but in the meantime what I'm
gonna do is I'm going to go ahead and
attach the rope to the new chain and
then attach the chain to the anchor so
we're gonna do a standard change a rope
this place on the end of the chain here
before I get to four on this I should go
get some tape to tape these ends I've
got my electrical tape scissors
[Music]
[Applause]
[Music]
well you know it's not perfect but I'm
ok with it
I got him healthy and offers me say if
it'll even melt though right now it's
kind of wet
this might be something that I have to
wade into
to do until it's dry so I'm going to
leave it out and call that the episode
thank you guys for watching and stay dry
wash your hands all that
