coming into Big Sandy I would be forced

right there that boat matches wind speed

they left quite a bit after us we saw

him on the horizon it's a single Lander

solo sailor named Greg black sails this

would be Big Sandy it would be the final

Island before the jump we noticed the

gray could not get his jib down we

watched him for quite a while before we

decided to paddle over and see what we

could do to help

he said his extrusions up at the top had

come apart so if he were to try to furl

it in only the top couple would spin and

it would ripped his sail solely on

totally new to sailing decided to go up

in a harness and see what he could do it

got pretty wild a few times he actually

slipped from where he was at and went

swinging into the mast after about an

half hour to an hour he decided to give

up and we came up with another plan the

plan was simple

just pull the jib down and roll it up

until we could get those extrusions fish

so we are heading into the night without

to switch that to take over about 7:00

you might notice a little bit different

Michael had the first night shift from 7

p.m. to 9 p.m. and she had a big smile

on her face when I checked over she

could see lightning all around us she

was enjoying the show we were doing five

to six knots right on our course we had

a double R evening and a half a jib

after an hour of being on

the night shift I got hit big time and

the front I think was moving I was

coming from the West

and whatever the case we were writing a

south easterly winds East to southeast

wind steady solid when my jib started to

luck left I was still on my heading so

that means I mean the wind hit us from a

totally different direction and it was

over double what we were writing on so

he just came from another direction

started to it healed us completely over

and just started taking us completely

take it out and just let it go let it

slap wildly in the wind and while it was

flapping I was able to pull it in and

eventually got it wrapped up just to

bring the windage down because we were

really heeling over when another bolt of

lightning hit I was able to see that the

mane was not completely intact

there was a big hole right where the

main

and the mast attaches so at the time it

was so crazy it was raining so hard that

I wasn't moving from deck and I did not

want Michael to come up I wanted her to

stay dry because I knew I would need

rest

she was on the radio also just after all

this happened Michael had decided to

check the engine to see how I was doing

and she saw that it was there was tons

of water down there which we've dealt

with before the new thing about this was

as the shop was spinning it was throwing

water into the air

so Michael assumed that her prop shaft

was leaking water in which was something

that I hadn't dealt with yet but I was

very very afraid of if it happened so at

that time Michael said Joel there's

water coming in from the shaft so I

idled it all the way down off we had no

jib and just a little piece of a mane

that was flapping you know it wasn't

really holding any wind

thunder lightning swirling all around us

sail ramped joel was able to get the jib

in while weather all the way keels over

taking on a little bit of water from the

side now we see

headed north so I was taking us with it

but now we're back on track

Joel's been at the helm this whole time

like

all the rainwater that was collecting up

on her cockpit was just draining it

drains down into the engine room some of

it and so there was so much rain it was

so heavy at rain that it you know we had

a good amount of water down there so

once she got that drained we realized

the engine was was functioning properly

we were not taking on water from the

shaft which would have been game ender

you know with without sails and now

we're taking on water with the engine I

was ready to call a mayday once we found

that the engine was still functioning

properly we were able to get on somewhat

of a course towards self and we just

kept that course for an hour eventually

the storm passed us and we were able to

continue moving Michael came up and

switched me out I was able to take all

my clothes off get towels dry off and

Michael was already prepared in full

rain gear and she was able to keep it

going she actually did a three-hour over

a three-hour shift after I finally got

done with that storm which really helped

me to get rest and dry up and then from

there we were able to use our motor and

a piece of a Mane all the way in

yeah we lost one of our teeth woods hey

we got our teak

all three of them we did lose a very

nice spotlight however and some other

things

dig the the wind indicator the slot that

the mess or the main goes in to show you

guys that later but we got it working

somewhat and we're coming up on the

channel it's a bit of a brisk morning

boats when another adventure got hit by

the storm she already had her jib in but

if you look closely you'll see that her

mane

which was double reefed was shredded she

made it in though
